I commented on your other idea about optional permissions, if I implemented them (I probably will since there’s a huge list of benefits) then that would let me requests the tabs permission and implement this.

The only downside is that it would then be the first widget that needs direct integration with the iChrome “backend” since it would need the background page to keep a running list of tabs in localStorage (synchronous, fast tab changes would stay in order). All the other widgets are completely isolated (except using “backend” provided functions and libraries).

I hope to build permission-dependent widgets in the next release, I’m about to do 2.0.8 with Feedly, Currency and Voice widgets and a couple of other things.

I’ve considered porting it to other browsers such as Firefox but I think it’s to soon for that, it needs to become more mature and stable.

As a developer I strongly suggest you stick with Chrome, I’ve tried other browsers and they just don’t cut it. Especially with the devtools, Firebug can never come close to the Chrome devtools since it doesn’t have access to backend APIs.

The development isn’t the issue, creating the widget would involve adding a new permission to the extension, users are already somewhat turned off by what it’s asking for, so for now this is out of the question.

However, I have an idea as to how I might be able to do this using existing permissions (listen for webRequestNavigation and onTabRemoved and build a list), but it has a small chance of working out so I’m going to close this idea for now. If it works out I’ll reopen it and build the widget.
